Vacancy

Role: Field Photographer & Visual Storyteller

Project Overview: Abandoned homes and buildings, photographed just as they were left. The people are gone, but they didn’t take much with them. Every room here is vacant, and somehow still full.

Key Highlights & Narrative Themes:

  • Absence & Evidence: Nobody appears in these photos, but everyone is still here: a wall of penciled names and phone numbers, half of them scratched out, and clothes heaped in a clawfoot tub as if someone meant to come back for them.
  • Domestic Remnants & Time Capsules: Teen magazine pinups, a red rotary phone, an empty jewelry box. Each one holds a decade in place, long after the tenants left.
  • Decay & Endurance: Roofs cave, porches sag, and the grass takes the yard back. Meanwhile, the toughest things in the room are often the oldest: a cast iron tub, a scarred workbench, a fridge still standing after the ceiling gave up.
  • Color & Light: Rusty tin roofs, faded teal paint, autumn leaves on an empty front walk. Nothing is added or cleaned up, so every color looks the way time left it.
  • Compositional Depth: I frame each place through what’s around it: bare branches, a broken fence, a doorway into the next room. You stand where I stood and decide whether to go in.
